[title type="h3"]Oktoberfest Begins At The Only German Restaurant In Town[/title]
The Oktoberfest has been underway for almost two weeks in Munich, where it all began. To follow the tradition as closely as possible, Jager Haus started its Oktoberfest menu before October began. Unlike most other Oktoberfest celebrants hereabouts, Jager Haus ("hunter's house") serves German food year-round--the only New Orleans restaurant that does.
It's a cute little place next door to Broussard's, and with each visit I find it more pleasant and better. The entire regular menu is available, plus some offbeat Oktoberfest specials. Among the latter are a German charcuterie plate with ram sausage and mustard-seed sausage; beer and cheddar soup; beer-braised pork shank with potato dumplings; sauerbraten, the famous marinated German roast beef; and raspberry bavarian cream for dessert.all the schnitzels and wursts you'd expect, plus a few offbeat dishes. And two dozen different German beers.
One can eat very amply here for around $20. There's a highly varied platter of Oktoberfest specialties for two in the $30s. Jager Haus is open for dinner only seven days a week. On Saturdays and Sundays, they open for brunch at 9:30 a.m.
