Dyeing hard boiled eggs is an essential part of every Easter season. It’s messy and things get stained from food coloring. But last month at Olive Patch, (an adorable kid’s shop in downtown Covington,) I ran into a little gadget labeled Peeps that is the ticket to Faberge-style egg decorating. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an eggsageration (sorry, I couldn’t resist,)but they are pretty spiffy works of edible art. And, no mess!
We first attempted to use paintbrushes because I have become paranoid about food coloring. That did't work, then we did the dyes, and that didn't work with the spinner. But we had some of the eggs dyed the regular way. We used them in the spinner just like the others but they came out darker. Maybe even more beautiful.
I first ran into this gadget at the same store at Christmas time. It is battery-operated and you put an ornament in at Christmas and now an egg and it spins around. There are markers that decorate both in only circular fashion. Great fun and highly recommended.
May all of you have a blessed and fun Easter, whether you are boiling crawfish or sitting down to a lavish brunch.
