The Ground Pat'i (don't ask me what the significance of the odd spelling means) opened as a small local chain in the late 1960s. To a great extent it still seems like a restaurant from that time. The free in-shell peanuts seem nostalgic now, for example. And this is one of very few restaurants locally where a salad bar persists. Hamburgers have always been central. They're a bit bigger than the average, but only slightly better. The menu was recently upgraded a bit to add a few chops, steaks, grilled fish and other food, but this is still strictly formula eating in a comfortable but ordinary plain-vanilla American environment.
