Restaurant Review

Anecdotes & Analysis

The gratifying revival of the old Oak Street commercial district has been especially salutary for the restaurant scene it fired up. Since the street's renovation, the number of restaurant has almost doubles along those eight block from Carrollton to the railroad tracks. Meanwhile, all over town, Mexican food--particularly in the street-food style--has become the obsession not only of New Orleans eaters, but also of many a local chef, some of whom left ambitious bistro cooking behind in favor of messing around with chile peppers. But many customers have the same tastes, so the trend marches on.

Dining Room

The building is a large, spacious former residence with high ceilings, creating one large dining room with many large windows. A bar is at the end of the wraparound porch, next to which is a patio. Outdoor tables are available in both areas. A grassy yard feels spacious in the otherwise crammed Oak Street neighborhood.
